This past sunday our actors and crew members worked on completing a fun short. All the actors had their lines prepared and our crew was ready to shoot. We got in, did our scenes and got out. A rough cut has already been put together and now everything has been sent to our editors to add in the special effects, for the short.
We hope to have it posted by the end of the week.
Last week we put together our podcast about some major upcoming events. We talked about the big Austin Actor mixer that lets actors from all over Texas come together to meet top Austin Talent agents. After that Ethan and Chris talked about the big open house the Texas Capital had on Jan 10th, allowing anyone to come and talk with their representative.
After that we interviewed one of our screenwriters about how they came up with the script for a 360 degree short that we plan to shoot in Feb. It was great hearing how she approached the dialogue, actions, and more.
The FMSA created an Amazon account along with our first wish list. You can click on the image above to find out what kind of items our program is currently looking to acquire. Our first list is for Film Cameras. Our wish list is public and open to anyone that wishes to purchase items for our program to help us keep moving forward.
We will be creating more wish lists based on what a Film Program needs in order to grow into a full production studio house as that is our long term goal.

Last night we worked hard on getting those reshoots done so we can move on to the next projects. It was a cold night but the crew and actors worked hard on getting everything that they needed. We finally have what they added to the script and now the post crew can start working on adding in the new reshoots to the final movie.
While that crew worked on reshoots, our other members we working on securing our next locations around the city. They finalized their script and made sure that they had what they needed for the next production. The members worked on what all needed to be done and we look forward to posting some fun behind-the-scenes photos of our next production.
The San Antonio Film Makers had the pleasure of inviting the San Antonio Film Comissioner, Krystal Jones, to come and speak at our program about what the city is doing to bring more film and TV shows to the city. San Antonio has one of the best filming incentives, out of all the other Texas cities, with 7.5% of tax credits on top of the state tax credits which makes SA the best place to come and film at. She mentioned that as long as 60% of the crew is hired from the local area then the whole production is able to take advantage of these amazing benefits.
Krystal then talked about how she wants to create a local film crew resource database that lets all crew members and actors register in this system which then connects them to local and out of state productions looking to hire. That local database would then connect and automatically update to the current Texas Film Directory. She is kept busy with trying to bring a lot of great talent to the city and we are glad to have her come and meet all our members. Starting January 2017 Paid Membership

Monday night our Film Makers came together and shot an entire short in one night using just digital apps. We had one app that was designed just for editing and rending and another app for adding artistic effect, thought bubbles, and in some cases, costumes. We had three "camera" people shooting on their smartphones at the same time to reduce time shooting and then transferred all the files together online into one storage depot online where our editor can pull all the footage from, upload it into the app, edit, and then send the finished edited product over to the final app where it will be rendered and then uploaded to our YouTube channel.
Our writers and members sit and watch our actors preparing their scene. Our writers are creating their lines as they improv their scenes. The members are watching and taking notes for how the scenes will be shot. We had a new member join us that took on the role of Director which they were happy to do.
We are excited that last night we finished up with our latest short. Its a spooky thriller that I'm sure everyone will enjoy. The crew and actors worked hard. Fun Fact: This short was shot for a total of 3 days and no more than 10 hours.
Our second podcast is uploaded. We talk about Richard Linklater's efforts to open a studio house in Austin, filmmaking in China, and the interview that Jonah Hill just did with Variety. We touch on a couple of film news in Texas as well. Leave comments on our sound cloud account for each podcast.
David Hook, who is a certified Drone pilot, contacted the Film Makers of San Antonio to come and talk with us about filming with drones and the laws we should know about. He educated us on the rules of flying a drone in a city during the day and at night. Many of our members had lots of questions because they all realize that they will eventually at some point use a drone for filming.
We talked with David about collaborating on future film shoots and he said that he would be happy to work with us on filming so we now have a licensed drone pilot who knows all the rules for filming so we don't have to worry about getting into any trouble with the law now if we need to shoot with a drone. Very awesome!
Last night some of our actor/actresses and crew members worked hard on completing their next short. We were close to wrapping the whole project except we needed to do one last scene the correct way and decided to finish it next monday. In the meantime our editors will take the footage we shot and start assembling everything so that way once we get our last shot they can just add it in real quick, do some color correcting and then we can post it on our YouTube channel. If you want to watch behind the scenes, add us on Snapchat and watch what we worked on. All the scenes will be gone by 9:30 pm today.
The Film Makers members started on a new short that we started shooting. Inspired by the last short entitle "The Hitch-Hiker" in the movie Creepshow 2. The idea behind the short came about from the idea of running into someone and then being connected to them in a strange way. Once we finish shooting we will post the short for everyone to watch.
(Left)Sasha and Michael, aka Coco, working together on recording music for her music album. They spent some time recording and mixing some music to later be uploaded for others to enjoy. Our Film makers work in a wide variety of areas in our program. (Right) Jessica and Robert working together on set for the new short they are working on. A night crew took over the streets in front of the studios to shoot.
Ethan and Bob helped kick off the 1st episode of our new podcast series. They talked about the Alamo City Studios which is where we are based out of and the film incentives currently in Texas and San Antonio. Afterwards the founder of the program, Chris, comes to talk about how this program got started and what the future of this program holds for film makers in central Texas.
The crew that helped bring the video below to life
Emmanuel Graves Eluid Lamboy Manuel Lamboy Jessica Costales all contributed their time and energy into making this set up a breeze. They took about an hour or so to take out the stands, unwrap the green screen, and then work with the actress to help make her scenes comes to life. Michael Vasquez did a great job of directing Jessica in what he was looking for in every scene. The crew worked hard to help ensure that they got what they were looking for, including a few other shots that they could use for other work later on. Jessica did a great job of working under the hot lights and changing into different outfits throughout.
The group worked on preparing their short for about 45 minutes before they shot the whole thing. They included a few real-world examples and then mixed in a dream sequence to cap it all off. The idea for the short came about by taking election related news and spin into something new - What would it be like if a younger Donald Trump had met a younger Barack Obama and what would that exchange be like. The actress played a therapist in another private session with young Trump.
Sasha is one of our members who enjoys creating music and live streaming. She enjoys the complete freedom that Soundtrap provides to her. The new member, Dustin, also enjoys creating music so this was the first time that he had heard about the website. It was to his benefit to join the program because he learned about a new tool that he can use when creating music.
